Pony Peek-A-Boo on the Beach

What a wonderful way to be welcomed to the Assateague Island Beach.

And what to my wondering eyes should appear? Well, how about one of the wild horses of Assateague Island appearing to play Peek-A-Boo from behind a sand dune at the Assateague Island National Seashore (AINS) in Maryland? Yes, as we were traversing one of the dune crossings one evening to access the beautiful Atlantic beach we spied this beautiful Assateague Pony – spying on us. Playing Hide and Seek, perhaps? She was partially hidden behind the dune grasses and the dune hill and gave us a thrill seeing her there, not on our path, but just to one side.

This photograph is available as prints, framed prints, on canvas and a variety of home décor items in the Assateague Island Collection by Bill Swartwout Photography at USPictures.com.

Note, please, that this was photographed with a telephoto lens zoomed out to nearly 300mm – so we were not nearly as close at this appears. The guidelines at AINS warn people to keep at least 40 feet away from the indigenous life forms – the Wild Horses of Assateague Island.
